In 1929 Pelikan was the first company in the world to present a new piston mechanism. This fountain pen is now available in several models and, although the design and technical details have evolved since then, the basics of the mechanism remain unchanged. In 1950, the model 400 of the fountain pen was launched. Composed of a green striped body, it quickly became a world symbol of the Pelikan brand. In the eighties the series was christened Souverän, although the German people have already given it the nickname Stresemann, the name of the state secretary of the "Weimarer Republick" known for their striped costumes. With the black and green and black and blue models that are already enjoying great popularity, the black and red version was added in 2001. The striped body design is presented in a strong colour contrast. The production of the body requires a lot of work. In accordance with a special manufacturing technique in Pelikan, the cotton used goes through many steps to obtain a thin striped sheet. It is then shaped, sanded and cut with an exact diamond shape of the pen. The attributes of the double ring located on the back of the body and on the cap are then integrated into the pen with the utmost precision to achieve a virtually uniform transition between materials. The writing instrument is then polished to an extreme shine before the attachment, with the famous pelican and slightly flexible, is mounted.
